Malt: Pale, Crystal
Hops: Pilgrim, First Gold, Goldings, Target
Perfect with: rich puddings, lighter casseroles and tangy cheese such as Port-Salut.
Additional Notes: Pilgrim provides a key herbal dry hop character, first gold and goldings give some citrus fruit and crystal malt provides warming toffee in the main beer of this blended ale. The use of some old 5X 12% ale adds dried fruit and raisin and produces a complex flavoured and richly satisfying ale.

The great British ale was first brewed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. It was even named after the factory’s test car which was once spattered in paint to try a new paint concept. The concept didn't quite catch on, but the car became known as the “Owld Speckl’d Un”. The eagle-eyed might even see the resemblance between MG’s logo and the Old Speckled Hen label! You may now associate it with our mascot, Henry, who can often be seen out and about around the country, telling his jokes and showing off our particularly splendid pint glass…
More than 40 years on, this unique and distinctive ale continues to be a finely balanced beer with a distinctive rich, toffee-malt taste and fruity aroma.

I was extremely pleased with the products received, however I was not so happy about the delivery. The delivery arrived smashed with beer seeping out of the box. Your customer service was excellent and you sorted my problem straight away. Can't say the same about the courier though. But Greene King get a big thumbs up from me. Keep up the good work, maybe just get a different courier.

Drink at home is always Old Speckled Hen. Tend to drink more of the Distinctive ale simply due to price against the Old Crafty Hen and alternate between the two. However the richer favour of the latter makes the temptation to drink more very irresistible hence naughty but nice.

I've tried Abbot and Abbot Reserve before as well as Old Speckled Hen, but the Old Crafty Hen is now my favourite with it's fruity, malty flavour. A good quaffing ale when you are really thirsty and it doesn't 'touch the sides'!
